The jujube, also known as the breastberry or Chinese date, comes from China and Korea, but is now cultivated worldwide. In traditional Chinese medicine, it is particularly valued for colds. The jujube has anti-inflammatory, expectorant, diuretic and calming effects. The name breastberry indicates that jujubes are used for all kinds of respiratory diseases. In addition, jujube strengthens the heart and improves blood circulation. Other areas of application include constipation, stomach pain, restlessness and sleep disorders. In TCM, the jujube is usually brewed as a tea together with other herbs.
Jujube dates: packed with vitamin C and minerals
In traditional Chinese medicine, the fruit, also known as jujube, is highly valued, especially for colds. And rightly so, because its vitamin C content is particularly high. Just two dates (approx. 18 g) cover over 25% of the daily requirement.
Jujube dates are not only a particularly good source of vitamin C. They also contain folic acid and iron. All three nutrients contribute to the normal function of the immune system. Iron and folic acid also have another property: they can reduce fatigue.
There's more to jujube dates: They provide copper, potassium and vitamin K. The nutrients benefit each other because copper contributes to normal iron transport in the body and vitamin C increases iron absorption. It's therefore best to combine jujube dates with iron-rich nuts such as almonds or hazelnuts.
A real rarity
The dried jujube date in raw and organic quality is an absolute rarity in Europe. Although it shares its name and appearance with dates, it belongs to the buckthorn family and is native to China. In this country, the dried fruits of this quality are hard to come by. An independent laboratory tests every delivery for residues. A rare fruit of the very best quality.
Soft and caramel
Jujube dates differ significantly in their consistency from classic dates. The dried fruits are fluffy and somewhat reminiscent of marshmallows. They taste similar to dried apples with a hint of caramel.
Our jujube dates are perfect as a healthy snack between meals, for teas and soups.
Preparation of tea:
Chop 2-3 dates per cup, pour over 250ml boiling water, let it steep for 10 minutes and enjoy.
